FG Moves To End Cyber Crime
The Attorney General of
the Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami, has said that the Federal Government is making pragmatic efforts towards ending cyber crime.
He made this known during the 2nd Annual Conference on Financial and Cyber Crime, in Abuja, last Tuesday.
The Tide learnt that the statement was in favour of the Cybercrime Act 2015 and its implementation.
Malami who spoke through the Special Adviser to the President on Justice Reforms Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, said that the Ministry of Justice would ensure that cyber crime crusaders were prosecuted accordingly.
He said that since they were a threat to national security, the law must take its cause against them.
The Tide further recalled that the conference was put together by the Federal Ministry of Justice, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in conjunction with the organised private sector (OPS).
According to him, the ministry was not only targeting the implementation of Cyber Crime Act 2015, but also that of Advanced Fee Fraud Act of 2007.
He revealed that the country was in critical condition concerning cyber crime, adding that something urgent must be done.
Furthermore, he hinted that both collaborations and trainings were going on at various departments and ministries in the federation to permanently nip the ugly situation in the bud.
In his reaction, the Director, Cyber Security, NITDA, Mr Chris Okeke, described the moves to adopt the Cyber Crime Act as a welcome development.
He hinted that his organisation had done a lot before now in an attempt to fight cyber crime.
Okeke, however, called on the AGF to ensure that the call to end cyber crime became effective, saying that cyber crime has become a challenge.
