Association Flays Slaughtering Cows On Sunday
The Rivers Butchers
and Meat Sellers Association, Trans Amadi, has warned its members against slaughtering cows on Sunday.
Chairman of the Association, Mr. Alade Afees, said that slaughtering cows on Sunday is environmentally unfriendly and unhealthy as veterinary doctors and Environmental Health officers are not available to supervise the slaughtering of cows, stressing that this situation makes the meat risky for consumption.
According to him, the decision to stop the slaughtering of cows on Sunday was taken by the association following the risk associated with it, but noted that the situation would not result to scarcity of meat.
Afees commended the Meat Consumers Protection Advocacy Centre for joining the campaign against the slaughtering of cows on Sunday, stressing that the development is in the interest of the society.
While urging members to comply with the directive, he said that the association would continue to take decisions that are in the interest of the public.
The chairman also warned members against being used by external stressing that as butchers they must continue to remain neutral as far as partisan politics is concerned.
