Post-UTME Fever Grips Varsity Admission Seekers …As Exams Begin Today
As the nation’s tertiary institutions prepare for a new academic session, students are in last minute preparations for their post-University and Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (Post-UTME).
Universities have called on prospective candidates to pay the necessary fees and proceed to finalise their applications online.
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) 2014 Post-UTME examination will take place on Friday, 1 August and Saturday, 2 August, 2014.
Our correspondents learnt that the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has released the timetable for their Post-UTME 2014 registration and screening exercise for candidates who made the university their first choice.
Candidates who did not pick the university as their first choice but wish to be considered for admission into degree programmes of the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze and Pope John Paul II Major Seminary, Okpuno (Philosophy), which are affiliate institutions of the university, may also apply.
The institution’s screening test will hold thus: Tuesday, 12 August, 2014 for Medicine, Health Sciences and Technology, Pharmacy, Basic Medical Sciences; Wednesday, 13 August, 2014 for Management Sciences; Thursday, 14 August, 2014 Social Sciences and Art; Friday, 15 August, 2014 Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Physical Sciences and will end on Saturday, 16 August, 2014 for the Law, Education, Biosciences, Agriculture students.
One of the prospective students at the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, told newsmen that their screening test will hold today at the institution’s Ibadan Campus.
Sunday Olaniyi, who stated that he has been preparing hard for the examination noted that, “I hope the examination is not as difficult as it is being portrayed everywhere.
“Tension is rising here but isn’t that what writing such an examination is all about?”
Meanwhile, the exercise has been in progress at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Yaba, Lagos since Tuesday.
The screening test, sources disclosed, will not end until the end of this week as the students hailed the conduct of the examination.
“We didn’t spend more than thirty minutes before we left the examination hall. Their setting in UNILAG was almost perfect and I hope the results will suggest the same,” Olasode Oshi told our correspondent.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
