50 Rivers Youth Athletes Start Training
The Rivers State
Junior Athletic Coach, Iyaye Kwani has said that about 50 athletes within the age of seven to 15 years were undergoing adequate training and grooming in the state.
Kwani, disclosed this in an interview with Tidesport at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports complex, Port Harcourt, recently.
According to him, the programme is a continuous exercise, pointing out that, with the training the state would soon be self sufficient in the area of athletics.
Some of the athletes who spoke with Tidesports expressed optimism that with this training they will grow up to be professionals and international athletes in future.
Kwani further said that should the children show commitment and dedication to their chosen sport, the sky would be their limit and they would be used to replace those that have already passed their prime in the state.
He advised the children to exhibit discipline and focus on the sport in order to excel in their desired level as athletes.
It would be recalled that some of the athletes were among those selected to represent the state in the 2012 National School Sports Festival.
