Kidnappers Demand Commissioner’s Resignation
The Bayelsa State Police
Command has said that it is combing all creeks and forest in the state in search of the kidnapped 87-year old woman and mother of the state Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Mr Furuebi Akene.
This is just as the kidnappers have contacted the woman’s family demanding the resignation of the commissioner from the cabinet of Governor Seriake Henry Dickson, stating “We don’t need your money, we only demands your resignation from this government because your service is no longer needed”.
The unusual demand appears to give the impression in certain quarters that all is not well with the political power block in the state-government with insinuations that preparations for the 2016 governorship elections in the state have started tearing friends apart.
According to family sources, the victim, 87-year old Patimi Akene was said to returning from a church where she had gone for night vigil in company of one of her grand daughters when the gunmen numbering more than six accosted them.
The gun men were said to have whisked off their victim without shooting a single shot, and moved her to a waiting boat before speeding off to an unknown place. Few hours after the incident which took place at Fonibiri, a coastal community, the kidnappers called to demand the resignation of the commissioner, if he wants his mother released.
In an interview, Surveyor Furuebi Akene, confirmed that his Octonegerian mother was abducted by the gunmen without firing a gun shot, and expressed concern over the incident. According to him: “my mother was in company of one of her grand daughters when the armed men arrived at about 12 am and taken towards Southern direction of the ocean” Her scream for help was cut short by the gunmen’s threat to kill her and her grand daughter, “Preliminary investigation from the movement of the gunmen showed that they know her and have been mounting surveillance on her. They decided to take her quietly to avoid alarm,” he said.
