In the news which was monitored in Port Harcourt by our reporter over the week, the Public Affairs Director, NCC, Mr. Tony Ojobo, noted that the agenda has produced many results.
He recalled that the commission had a focused leadership and staff who he said are always ready to ensure that the regulating body was moving to the targeted areas.
According to him, the commission would not relent until it reached enviable heights in the country and beyond.
The five-point agenda include compliance monitoring and enforcement as well as consolidation.
It would be recalled that the NCC had sometime ago, blamed lack of phone production industries in the country on poor power supply.
He pointed out that the recognition was done by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), adding that other regulatory bodies in Africa contact NCC for solutions.
The NCC boss, explained that the agenda was geared toward ensuring that the global community recognised Nigeria as a destination country for telecoms investment.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the five-point agenda was the brain-child of the Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah, hinted that it was also responsible for the flat rate of short messaging system (SMS) from N15 to N4 in all networks.
Concerning the issue of compliance monitoring and enforcement, he said that NCC had the key performance indicators (KPIS), saying that this has given it the force to bite.
He however admitted that it has brought some discipline in the industry and made operators more accountable and responsive to consumer’s complaints.
