NCC Alerts Network Subscribers On Fraudulent Promos
The Director, Public
Affairs, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Mr Tony Ojobo, has warned telecommunication subscribers against falling victims to fraudsters in the name of winning promos.
In a news in Port Harcourt by our reporter recently, he regretted that subscribers responded to messages by fraudsters that they had won promos which they never took part in.
Ojobo, noted with dismay the repeated occurrence of such messages to subscribers, saying that the commission would soon come up with modalities to track down the suspects.
Describing the so-called promo texts as unsolicited messages, he warned members of the public not to respond to such SMS henceforth, adding that it was fraudulent.
According to him, the fraudsters coil some of the text as if it emanated from his agency, hinting that it was only intended to make subscribers part with their money.
He hinted that the commission had before now advertised in the media to prove that they were not into any of such promos, insisting that every promo is an invitation to trick subscribers.
The NCC director also blamed subscribers, especially those who never participated in any lottery for the zeal they show when they receive text that they have won some monies and gift items.
He wondered how someone who never participated in any lottery could win any prize, saying that is an impossible mission.
Ojobo, who did not mention precisely if the NCC has lifted the ban on promos by telecommunication providers, advised members of the public to always verify the authenticity of such messages before thanking their stars for a big catch.
Earlier, he had said that the main task of the commission was to monitor the activities of network providers and not to engage or promote any promo.
