‘RSUST, Pride Of Rivers People’
The General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr Celestine Ogolo has extolled the administrative competence of the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Prof Barineme Fakae for making the university a pride of the state.
The general manager said during a visit of The Tide Editorial Board last Wednesday, that the achievements of the university were testimony of hard work and commitment to duty.
Ogolo said the visit had afforded members of the board the opportunity of appreciating the development in the school and stated that the university has the potential of becoming the best in Nigeria.
He said the present rating of the university as the best regional university and the 12th best among all the universities in the country was attained through a commitment to excellence as demonstrated by the breakthrough in several areas of the school’s administration.
The general manager assured of the partnership of The Tide with the university in carrying out its mandate of promoting academic excellence, especially in the areas of training, and stressed the need for the university administration to sustain its reform policies for its multiplier effects on the society.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Barineme Fakae, had assured of his commitment to the mandate of sanitizing the university from institutional rot.
He said the endemic corruption in the areas of sale of grade, examination malpractice, cultism and infrastructural decay that were the hallmark of the university in the past has been phased out.
Fakae also disclosed that the challenge of accreditation which once confronted by the university has been tackled as all courses have been accredited while the university is now ICT-compliant and the foremost e-varsity in the country.
The vice chancellor emphasized the need for developmental journalism as a platform for institutional development, and promised to partner with The Tide in its development objectives.
The vice chancellor also led The Tide delegation on a facility tour round the university.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
