Commissioner Calls For Establishment Of Agric Institute
The Delta Commis
sioner for Agriculture, Mr Misan Kubeyinje, has said that there was the need for the establishment of an agricultural training institute in the state.
Kubeyinje told newsmen in Asaba that the measure was necessary to equip the youths with modern techniques which would enable them to embrace agriculture.
He said the institute should focus mainly on relevant courses such as fishery, animal husbandry, poultry, and snailry among others.
He noted that such an institute would also afford interested persons to have professional qualifications in agriculture.
Kubeyinje added that the institute would give access to farmers to upgrade their knowledge in modern farming techniques.
He also said that having such an institute in the state would attract grants from donor agencies for agricultural projects.
“Donor agencies do not give support to private businesses but only assist in government programmes.
“Such donor agencies as the State Employment Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) of the World Bank, for example, has strengthened some technical colleges in the state,’’ he said.
