Scrabble Expert Harps On Regular Competitions
The Project Manager of
2013 Scrabbulympics, a grassroots scrabble competition, Toye Allen, has said the frequent organisation of such competitions would go a long way in discovering future international champions.
Allen told newsmen in Lagos that the competition would aid in discovering talents that would represent the country at international competitions.
“The recently-concluded competition is a welcome development in the progress of the sport in the country because it aims at catching them young.
“When you expose these children to scrabble early in life, they become experts in the use of words and develop strategies in which they can use to defeat their opponents,’’ he said.
The scrabbulympics was held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos from November 1 to 8, with no fewer than 200 secondary schools participating.
Allen further said playing scrabble would improve the spoken English of those who took part in the competition, “and therefore transform them to seasoned orators’’.
He also noted that the players of scrabble usually grew up to be psychologically-balanced individuals because they engaged the use of their brains in the event.
Allen advised parents and wards to introduce their children early to the game so that they would be experts in the use of words and have a balanced psychology towards life.
