NNPC/Shell Golf Prize Disappoints Winner
The overall champion of the 2013 Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Shell Golf Tournament, Samuel Amadi has expressed disappointment over the prize and poor quality trophy awarded to him.
Amadi who said this in an interview with newsmen immediately after emerging the overall champion at the Air Assault Golf Club in Port Harcourt on Saturday, however thanked God for his victory in the one-day competition.
“Although the trophy is not good enough, I thank God I have been recognised in the game.
“The trophy is not encouraging, I was expecting something bigger or monetary prize but what I was given was only trophy.
He further explained that the victory was due to hard work and determination saying “well, my winning was not by my making, it is the will of God and I am very happy that I made it”.
Also speaking, one of the amateur golfers, Ordinance Emeji appealed to the government to give attention to golf like other sports in the country.
He said inadequate promotion of the game by the government had hampered the growth of the sport, adding that Nigeria would excel in the game if government could develop it like other sports.
Earlier, the Managing Director of NNPC, Mutiu Sunmonu had lauded the talents displayed at the one-day tournament pointing out that the standard was indication that the game was growing in the country.
