Abia Police Explain Woman’s Kidnap
The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, has refuted reports that an American woman was kidnapped in the State, saying she was a Nigerian.
Abubakar told newsmen yesterday in Aba that there was no iota of truth in the report.
He said that the kidnapped lady was an indigene of the state that lived with her mother who was a teacher in England.
He said that the lady was on a visit with her boyfriend to Onicha Ngwa in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia for the Easter celebration when she was abducted by hoodlums.
“She is not an American; the mother is from here, Onicha Ngwa. She came to celebrate the Easter with her boyfriend.
“She has not been to America, but lives with her mother who is a teacher in England,’’ Abubakar said.
The Commissioner said that the lady had not been seen after the abduction, adding that the kidnappers were demanding N20 million ransom from the girl’s mother.
He said that the police had intensified a manhunt for the hoodlums and a rescue search for the lady.
