Rivers Begins Registration Of Flood Victims
The Rivers State Government has
begun the registration of farmers affected by the recent flooding to enable
them to benefit from the 30, 000 tonnes of grains as well as other farm inputs
meant for distribution.
In a statement
from the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday in Port Harcourt, Mr Emmanuel
Chindah, the Commissioner for Agriculture, said the grains and the inputs were
allocated to the state by the Federal Government.
He said the registration exercise would enable government
to have an accurate figure of the affected farmers.
The commissioner said government had inaugurated an
inter-governmental committee to ensure effective distribution. adding that Ahoada, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Abua/Odual had
been identified as distribution centres.
The commissioner advised the farmers to report to the
Divisional Agricultural Officers in their respective councils for further
directives.
The Permanent
Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Alex Hart said members of the committee were
drawn from the federal and state ministries of agriculture and civil society
organisations.
