The management of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Port Harcourt has presented laptops to seven best 2010/2011 year one students of the institution.
The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Barineme. B. Fakae who said this during the 30th matriculation ceremony of the university last week in Port Harcourt said that the gesture was part of the efforts of the university to encourage excellence among the students.
Prof. Fakae also said that the present administration in the university has embarked on massive enhancement of e-capacity of the institution through its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) masterplan.
The university, according to him, now has a robust campus wide access to global information infrastructure and has computerised its key processes.
“In association with MTN we have deployed and implemented a broad band campus area internet access which has brought the entire campus under an internet cloud,” he said.
He urged the matriculating students to see their admission as an opportunity to improve themselves, stressing that they must be of good characters all the time.
“It is my advice that since the university found you good, to come in, you must be good to stay in and must be good to graduate.
“It is therefore in your own interest to study hard, observe all rules and regulation guiding your stay here in the university and exhibit good morals that should showcase you as students worthy of university education”, he said.
A total of 3,309 students matriculated at the ceremony.
