Group Tasks Journalists On Social Networking
A Non Governmental Organisation, the Academic Associate Peace Work, has called on practicing journalists to move beyond the conventional media of communication and embrace social networking to enhance their professional duties.
Executive President of the body, Dr Judith Asuni gave the urge during a one day media training for practicing journalists held at Coral Reef Hotel in Port Harcourt recently.
Dr Asuni said modern trends in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development places the prospect of excellence in journalism practice on the acquisition and application of basic ICT knowledge. She said the training was to enable journalists get a better knowledge of the social media such as facebook, twitter, yutube and blog.
According to her, any journalist that does not embrace the new trend is at risk of losing touch with his audience.
She called on the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training and improve on their knowledge of social networking to access the numerous opportunities online.
Also speaking, the resource person, Kayode Akintemi, said Nigerians were still limited in the understanding on new technological development, and called for proper sensitisation of the people on the use of the new media.
Akintemi, an ICT consultant and General Manager Operations, Channels Television said journalists should update their ICT knowledge to enable them discharge their professional duties effectively.
