Delta Earmarks N1bn To Rehabilitate Industries
The Delta government says it has set aside N1 billion to rehabilitate ailing industries and establish new ones
The Delta Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Kinsgsley Emu, disclosed this recently at a press briefing on Tuesday in Asaba, Delta.
Emu said that there were entrepreneurs in the state who had ventured into industrial enterprises, but due to some extraneous factors had closed down.
“Bearing in mind that the potentials of such companies to provide gainful employment to reasonable section of the society, the ministry is ready to assist such industries to get back on their feet.
“However, a viability evaluation will first be carried out to ensure that resources are not wasted on moribund industries.
“A comprehensive data bank of all industries in the state is in the pipeline to provide the required baseline information,’’ the commissioner said.
Emu also disclosed that the state had concluded plans to establish three craft centres in the state.
He said that the centres would be located in the three senatorial districts, adding that physical development of the centres would soon begin.
According to him, study trips have been made to existing craft centres in the country and input have been obtained from the Bank of Industry.
The commissioner said that the state had budgeted N25 million for the Delta International Trade Fair scheduled to hold November.
Emu said that although the fair was not a primary responsibility of the state government, the state was supporting the fair with N25 million.
He said that the trade fair complex, located at Osubi, near Warri, was nearing completion and that additional facilities had been approved for the complex.
