JTF Arrests 70 Suspected IYC Youths In Andoni
Over 70 youths purporting to be members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have been arrested by the Joint Taskforce in Ngo, headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area.
The youths were arrested on the orders of the local government chairman, Hon Orom-Nte Ereforokuma. Sources in the area informed The Tide that the suspected Ijaw Youth Council members who claimed to be on a peace mission to Andoni stormed Ngo on Friday night in 15 speed boats.
According to the source, the suspected IYC members claimed that they were sent by the leadership of the IYC to stage a peace rally in Ngo with the view to resolving the communal problems between Unyeada and Asarama communities.
The Tide further learnt that as this explanation did not go down well with the Joint Taskforce (JTF) which briefly detained them at the Obolo hall, before they were taken to Port Harcourt.
But reacting to the development, chairman, Elders Forum of the Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern zone, Mr Athanesius Eneyo said that the council was not aware of the alleged peace mission embarked upon by the youths.
