RSG To Procure More Fire Fighting Vehicles
The Rivers State Government, has promised to boost the state fire service with more fire fighting vehicles while existing ones would be refurbished to enable the state fire service combat more effectively cases of fire incidents in the state.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Nwogu who said this during a meeting with staff of the fire service in Port Harcourt also said that an ambulance would be procured to check cases of emergency.
Hon. Nwogu said that the government was determined to complete all on-going fire stations to ensure the effective coverage of the entire state.
“We are building zonal stations. There is an on-going station in Rumuodumanya, there is an on-going station at Degema, there is another one at Ahoada and one at Borokiri, and I have asked for the progress of work in those stations,” he said.
He urged the staff to be up and doing, assuring that a process for an upward review of their allowances had been initiated by the Ministry.
The Commissioner however, warned against cases of indolence, bribery and corruption, stressing that anyone caught in such acts would be shown the way out.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, Dame Mina Benebo had said that the meeting was initiated to know the problems of the fire service with a view to tackling them.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Nwogu has urged the people of the state to always create easy access for fire fighting trucks in the event of any emergencies.
Speaking at the scene of a fire incident at Ogbunabali last Thursday, Hon. Nwogu thanked the fire service for its prompt response to the distress calls which resulted in the prevention of the fire from doing a lot of damages to the building.
The Commissioner later inspected facilities at the Borokiri fire station.
