PHCCIMA, CITN Plan Workshop On Taxation
The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) and Corporate Management Consult Limited in Collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) are billed to organise series of workshops on taxation in Port Harcourt.
The workshops, which would be a training programme on taxation for stakeholders would hold at the conference hall of Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt.
Coordinator of the workshop, Mr Clement Akanibo, who made this known in a press briefing organised by the CITN on Monday, said the workshop, which would take place on Thursday and Friday, 17th and 18th September 2009, will feature topical issues such as Administration, Principles and Practice as well as contemporary issues in personal income tax (PIT), Value Added Tax (VAT) and withholding Tax (WHT).
He stated that the two-day workshop with the theme, “Nigerian tax laws, tax planning and Administration, is the first in the series noting that there are plans to carry out the training programme in the rural areas of the state.
Akanibo explained that the organization of the workshops on taxation became necessary following the sequence of multiple taxation in the state.
He continued that the issue of multiple taxation has given a lot of concern because of its negative effects on the organised private sector.
“Stakeholders, which include individuals and corporate bodies should ordinarily not wait to be told before they pay their taxes. They should know how, where and when to pay their taxes to avoid any embarrassment,” he said.
On her part, Mrs Stella Agada, the training Trade Group of PHCCIMA expressed appreciation over the gesture of CITN in coming up with such training programme on taxation.
According to her, PHCCIMA as the mouth piece of the organised private sector is very willing to partner with CITN which is why “when you came up with the idea we accepted it because it is a laudable project”.
