Apara Rebisi Stool: Court Assures On Accelerated Hearing
A Port Harcourt High
Court says it will give accelerated hearing to the suit challenging the stool of Eze Opara Rebisi in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state pending before it.
The trial judge, Justice T.S. Orji, who made this declaration Wednesday, at the resumption on the hearing of the suit, said the decision was to give the case the serious attention it deserves.
She reiterated that her earlier preservative order on the matter directing all the parties involved to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the matter was still in force, adding that the court would invoke its powers on any party that fails to comply with the court order.
The trial judge while adjourning the matter to 3,17,22nd and 30th July, urged the parties to file all their responses before July 10, 2014, stating that on the resumption dates, the court would take all the motions and responses together.
The case was filed by Chief Emeka Anyabelem and Elder Boniface Wechie on behalf of Oroworukwo Community. In Rebisi Kingdom, challenging the purported installation of an indigene of Oro-Olozu as the Eze Apara Rebisi.
The claimants had also sought an interlocutory injunction restraining the installation and coronation of any candidate from Oro-Alozu Community for coronation as the Eze Apara Rebisi pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The trial judge refused to grant the motion on the ground that she would hear the matter on its merit and also give it accelerated hearing.
Justice T. S. Orji, later granted what she described as preservative order which directed the parties involved in the matter to maintain the status-quo.
Earlier, counsel to the claimant, James Ocholi (SAN), says only the 9th defendants filed reply to their services adding that the court’s preservative order was still in force.
He disclosed that he would react appropriately to the change of title of Prince Woluchem Victor, who purportedly described himself as the Eze Apara Rebisi.
