Stockbrokers To Meet NASS Over Capital Market
The Association of Stockbroking Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) says it will soon hold an investor education programme with the National Assembly on capital market issues.
The association’s President, Mr Emeka Madubuike, told newsmen in Lagos that the purpose was to ensure favourable legislation on capital market issues.
“We believe that if we have legislators that really understand the workings of the capital market, it will help.
“In May, stockbrokers held a capital market night, and the objective was to seek ways stockbrokers can reach out to the various sectors of the economy.
“The plan is to start with the National Assembly,” Madubuike said.
He gave the assurance that the investor education would begin before December.
Madubuike noted that the association would also hold town hall meetings with critical shareholders to increase retail participation in the market.
According to him, the meeting, which will hold across the country, is to educate retail investors on the rudiments of capital market operations.
