Abe Pays Fees For 1500 Students
No fewer than 1500 final year students from the Rivers South East Senatorial zone have benefitted from Senator Magnus Abe’s school fees intervention programme for indigent students of the zone.
Speaking during the flag off at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Port Harcourt, Senator Abe said that the situation represented his commitment towards the educational development of the zone.
The senator who was represented by the Facilitator Student Desk in the office of the senator, Mr. Kadilo Kabari said that the programme was to enable final year students from the zone to pay their school fees.
He said that students of the Rivers State Polytechnic Bori had also benefited from the scheme.
According to him, apart from the school fees intervention scheme, free eye test was also initiated for school children in the zone.
Also, Comrade Emmanuel Goteh Bie, a student Desk Officer in the office said that the programme was in fulfillment of the senator’s promise to students from the zone.
He said that each of the seven local government councils was represented by ten best students to ensure an even distribution.
Meanwhile, students from the zone have commended Senator Abe for keeping to his promise.
A cross section of the students who spoke to The Tide during the ceremony, said that Senator Abe had fulfilled more than eighty percent of his promise to students in the area.
In their separate speeches Comrade Nwinee Harold, President National Union of Khana Students, Comrade Chidike of Oyigbo and Kilsin Kokpun of Gokana students described the programme as the first of its kind in the area and pledged their support to the senator.
