Shun Violence, Dame Amaechi Tells Okrikans
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has underscored the need for Okrika people to embrace peace and shun all forms of violence to move the Area forward.
Speaking at the first Okrika Women Assembly Tuesday at Okrika Town, Dame Amaechi noted that Okrika is blessed with huge human and natural resources which is crucial to the development of the state.
Against this backdrop, she told the people that the only way they can tap from these resources is for the women to give their children proper upbringing and be prayerful.
The Governor’s wife said that since poverty and poor development is tied to poor education, the women should ensure that youths are educated or acquire skills.
She lauded the Okrika women for the massive support they had given to her pet programme the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) and other programmes of government, while assuring them of more dividends in the future.
Aside participating in state government programmes, Dame Amaechi charged the womenfolk in Okrika to participate fully in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise to ensure that bad politicians without record are not given mandate.
Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Chris Tamuno charged the women to forge a common front against all divisive influence in the area.
Dr. Tamuno who is also a former Registrar at the University of Port Harcourt thanked the initiators of the forum towards making the women have a common voice to participate effectively in the transition programme.
Earlier, Wife of Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Mrs Rachael Aduko had lauded Dame Amaechi for all the good programmes she and her husband have initiated so far.
