NURTW Cautions Motorists On Over-Speeding
The Chairman, National
Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Igwuruta chapter, Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Loveday Anele, has cautioned motorists especially commercial drivers not to over-speed or rush to make more money during the “Ember months”.
Anele gave the advice at the flag-off ceremony of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Isiokpo unit Command “Ember Months” road Safety Campaign held at Igwuruta motor Park, Port Harcourt recently.
He said commercial drivers should resist the temptation of being in a hurry or rush to make sufficient money for celebration with their families and loved ones during the period, saying that there is no duplicate in live and as directors of the steering, they should obey all road traffic rules and regulations to stay alive.
The Igwuruta NURTW boss also enjoined the drivers to be contempted with what they would have for the day do the right thing and do not be controlled by the passengers as then lives are in their hands, stressing, “Do not drive dangerously and obey road traffic laws”.
Anele, a Justice of the Peace who called on drivers to co-operate with officers of the FRSC, thanked the organisations for the enlightenment and beat his chest that since he became chairman, Igwuruta, unit of NURTW, no driver had died through road crash and urged them to maintain that spirit.
In his admonition, the Bishop of Anglican Communion, Ikwerre Dioceses Bishop Blessing Enyindah advised motorist to obey road traffic rules and signs to avoid crash on the road, and that the rules were for the good of the people and not to punish them.
Enyindah, who stressed the need to always use seat belt while driving, thanked FRSC for the campaign and enjoined them not to relent.
While fielding questions from drivers, the Isiokpo unit Commander of FRSC, Ugochukwu Amaechi warns against buying expired second hand “Tokumbo” tyres, to go and get their new drivers licenses direct from the approved centres and without proxy or patronizing quacks, attend approved driving schools certified by FRSC, to update their skills, and called on the authorities to provide more road signs for safe driving and to avoid carnage on the road.
