Youth Council To Train 250 In Delta
The Delta chapter of the
National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says it will train 250 youths in the 25 local government areas of the state this year.
The State Chairman of the council, Mr Hope George, who made the disclosure in an interview in Asaba, last Sunday, said that the youths would be trained in various skills so that they could become self-employed and productive members of the society.
He said that in addition to reducing unemployment, the programme would also help to keep the youths away from vices.
According to him, the trainees will be in two categories comprising secondary school dropouts and unemployed graduates.
“The unemployed graduates will be trained to acquire entrepreneurial skills, while the secondary school dropouts among them would be engaged in skills acquisitions programmes. The skill acquisition programme will cover soap making, tailoring, welding, computer training, hair dressing, catering, bead making and more,” he said.
The chairman said that in the course of the training, the youths would acquire skills that would enable them to key into the state government’s youth empowerment programmes.
He said that after the training, they would have the opportunity to benefit from the Delta micro credit scheme.
George said that registration for the programme would commence soon in the various local government areas.
The council trained over 500 youths in the state between 2011 and 2013 and that the programme had been helping in solving youth unemployment in the state.
