PDP Reconciles Attah, Akpabio
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah to embrace peace and to desist from making comments capable of plunging the party into crisis in the state.
The party also called on the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio to play the role of a leader for the members of the party in the state.
The PDP’s intervention followed the crisis between Attah and Akpabio over the control of party machinery in the state.
The acrimony had led to the polarisation of the party with some members pitching their tent with Attach, while others are with Akpabio.
PDP’s national headquarters inAbuja said its intervention was as a result of the outcome of the reconciliation exercise carried out by the committee set up to reconcile warring members of the party across the country.
It called on Attah to drop his grievances against the congress where members of the State Executive Committee emerged.
The Party claimed that the Reconcilliation Committee had written a report on now Attah and Akpabio openly resolved to forget the past and move the party forward in the state.
The report, which was obtained by The Tide’s source, read:” As agreed at the Abuja meeting, the Governor (Akpabio) apologised to the former Governor (Attah) in a deep moving speech of reconciliation.
“Thereafter, the state chairman of PDP also led the state Executive to seriously apologise to Obong Victor Attah.
“The humility shown by the state Executive member by prostrating before the former Governor was deeply moving and impressive. Joyfully, Obong Attah accepted the apologies of both the governor and the state Executive of the party. This mature gesture was truly applauded by all stake holders,” the report stated.
