Association Seeks Law To Protect Telecoms Facilities
President, National
Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS), Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, has urged the Federal Government to enact a law that would protect installations in the sector against willful destruction.
Ogunbanjo told newsmen in Lagos last Wednesday that such a law would enhance service delivery to subscribers and give them value for their money.
He said that each time the operators experienced sabotage to their facilities, subscribers were always at the receiving end.
“Over the years, telecommunication companies have been contending with the challenge of accidental damage to their infrastructure, especially in violence-prone areas and construction sites.
“The frequent damage to the infrastructure, most times, is responsible for the poor services being rendered to the subscribers,” he said.
Ogunbanjo also appealed to community leaders and Nigerians to assist the operators to protect telecommunications’ facilities, to avoid disruption of service.
The Tide reports that telecommunications’ operators had on many occasions complained of frequent damage to their installations, especially in areas where there were crises.
The operators said that they bore the cost of repairing the damaged facilities because there was no law enacted to protect them.
