Bank Manager Harps On Positive Use Of Internet
Internet has been said to
be the highest dictionary in the world, if users could avail themselves of its positive end.
The Branch Manager, Skye Bank Plc, Anita Umoh, said this in Port Harcourt during the Skye Bank/Chamagne Foundation Forum at Community Secondary School Nkpolu.
She said that the internet was not only for social activities and entertainment, but to search in a bid to improve one’s knowledge base.
Umoh told the participants to access the internet in order to be good readers and as well distinguish themselves from the society.
According to her, the programme, which was also in line with the 2013 Literary Day Celebration, was prepared to redirect the minds of young people from all negative aspect of the internet. The Skye Bank boss, further charged the students to read more of the newspapers and shun acts that are inimical to the society.
To buttress her point, she read some pages of “Things Fall Apart” for the students and encouraged them to at least read a book a day, adding that it was part of the champagne foundation target for Nigerian Students.
Another anchor person from Skye Bank, Abimbola Ojosipe, who went memory lane, stressed the importance of good reading habit, hence the need to establish a reading forum for the students.
She noted that read with compassion was the best way to read, as she cautioned against reading trash in the guise of book.
Meanwhile, the principal of the school, Mr Charles Amadi, thanked the Skye Bank Foundation for its gesture and tasked them to extend it to other schools in the state.
Highlight of the event was donation of books and launching of the book club.
