NGO To Sponsor 35 Gusau Students In Higher Education
The Gusau Progressive League (GPL), an NGO in Zamfara State, said it would sponsor 35 indigenes of Gusau local government area to various tertiary institutions within and outside of the state.
The Chairman of the group, Alhaji Kabiru Agege, told newsmen in Gusau on Thursday that the gesture was part of the organisation’s contribution to the development of education in Gusau and its environs.
He said the group’s decision was informed by the inability of the students’ parents to sponsor them for higher education.
He said the organisation had already distributed admission forms of various institutions of higher learning to the students, depending on their choice of course.
He also said the organisation had earmarked funds for the payment of their registration fees.
The chairman noted that government alone could not cater for the educational needs of all its citizens.
He called on other NGOs and wealthy individuals to contribute their quota.
He said the group was founded to unite the people of Gusau and environs to improve health care, education, and human development in the area, adding that the group was non-partisan.
