Injured Lastma Officers Receive N3.43m
The Lagos State Gov
ernment has doled out N3.43 million to 23 officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority,
LASTMA, who sustained injuries in the course of performing their official duties.
Some of the LASTMA officers were either injured by street urchins or ran down by hit- and run vehicles.
Presenting the insurance claims to the beneficiaries at the Athority’s Headquarters, Chairman of the Organisation, CP. Young Arebamen (rtd) said the efforts of those who had lost their lives were not in vein; and enjoined other officers to work diligently without favour or prejudice, but discharge duties within the confines of law.
Arebemen urged LASTMA officers to realise that they were rendering services to God and that they would surely be rewarded for such services, adding that “you should have an unlimited elasticity to bear the havoc associated with your job.”
He appealed to the officers to be patient with the public as the job at hand was so enormous that it could not be done by LASTMA officers alone.
The chairman commended the officers for their commitment and diligence as LASTMA’s impact was being felt in all nooks and crannies of the state, stressing that the authority had improved traffic movement on Lagos roads.
The Director, Finance and Administration, Mrs. Bisi Owoyemi in her remarks said the package was just a token as insurance for injured LASTMA officers in the course of their duties, saying that the State government is committed to the welfare of its workers, and urged them to shun hooliganism and violence.
The beneficiaries received cash gifts depending on the degree of injury.
