President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the capital and maintenance dredging of Calabar Port, the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Malam Habib Abdullahi, has said
This is contained in a statement signed NPA General Manager, Public Affairs, by Capt. Iheanacho Ebubeogu, the in Lagos recently.
The statement said that Abdullahi made this known when he paid a courtesy visit on the Acting Governor of Cross River State, Mr Efiok Cobham.
Abdullahi said the Federal Government was concerned about the development of the port, adding that government was making concerted efforts to make the ports operate optimally.
According to him, both local and international investors will reap the benefits the dredging contract will offer.
“The dredging when completed, will enable bigger vessels to call at the port, thus, boosting economic activities in Cross River and the entire geographical area the port covers,’’ the statement added.
Cobham said the port was critical to the economy of the state, especially now that it was reducing its over-dependence on oil.
