Subscribers Seek Improved Telecom Services In Rural Areas
Telecommunication providers in Nigeria have been charged to extend their services to some rural areas in the state for proper coverage and not to centre their services in the township alone.
Some of the service providers which are yet to take their services to the grassroot include Etisalat and Airtel Nigeria.
A community leader in Bien Gwara in Khana Local Government Council, Elder Benneth Igiah who spoke with newsmen in the community, Monday, said some service providers in the country are not sensitive about the quality of services provided at the rural areas.
He noted that companies like Airtel should overhaul their systems so as to provide quality service to the people. Igiah accepted that Airtel network is in his community, but not providing the kind of service needed for serious business.
According to him, the service is weak and needs upgrading to enable the community communicate effectively with other parts of the world.
He regretted that Etisalat Nigeria is yet to have its presence in the area, despite the community’s several attempts to bring them over.
The community leader advised that service providers should learn how to operate on neutral grounds and not to attach any kind of politics to it.
He explained that telecommunication providers ought to live up to expectation, judging from the huge patronage they are receiving from the country.
Also speaking, the youth leader of the community, Comrade Peter Kponeh, stressed that Etisalat Nigeria should extend its services to the area, saying that they are part of the countries they are operating in.
He noted that by default, network provision in the rural areas should be active due to the kind of businesses going on in the communities.
Kponeh frowned at a situation where network providers calculate how much money they will make before entering into any community.
