RSG To Partner Multinationals On Youth Dev
The Rivers State Government says, it has concluded plan to partner with multi-national companies to train Rivers youths on welding and fabrication, offshore facilities, Marine Engines Operation, Mandatory courses among others to create jobs for youths in the next few months.
The State Commissioner for Youths Development Sir, Owene Emeka Wonodi disclosed this Tuesday at the graduation/presentation of certificates and starter packs for completed computer training in Port Harcourt.
“Presently, we are about partnering with the multi-national companies, who would be assisting the state government in training some youths on specialized skills, ranging from welding and fabrication, Marine training to work in offshore facilities, mandatory curses among others to make Rivers Youths to be self-reliance.
“We will also take people on leadership and Administrative training to prepare them administratively on how to manage businesses for self-employment in the state”, Sir Wonodi said.
He said, the state Government had already engaged over 30,000 youths in various jobs to reduced poverty and youth restiveness.
However, the Youth Development Commissioner disclosed that 115 unemployed youths benefitted from state training and empowerment programmes.
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity given to them, adding that the state government would strictly monitor them to ensure the success of the programme.
According to him, the beneficiaries were trained in various skills of computers and management to have self-dependent business of their own.
He said, the State Government chooses to train and empower the grandaunds with starter packs and computer set to start up life for meaningful living, instead of giving them fish every day.
Sir Wonodi reiterated government’s commitment to ensure that youths in the state are engaged programme to alleviate poverty in the state.
