Pensioner, 72, Wins Hyundai In Unity Bank Promo
A 72-year-old pensioner, Mr Eta Inyang, on Friday in Uyo won the star prize of Hyundai Verna car in an Aim and Win Promo organised by Unity Bank.
Inyang, who hails from Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, was an account staff of Governor’s Office in the then Cross River and retired voluntarily from the civil service in 1981.
The keys and documents of the car were presented on behalf of Unity Bank to the winner by Mr Udo Kerian-Akpan, Deputy Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.
The deputy speaker, represented by the member representing Ukanafun state constituency in the House, Mr Aniekan Akpan urged Unity Bank to establish a branch in his constituency.
He said that there is no commercial bank in his federal constituency made up of Oruk-Anam and Ukanafun local government areas.
Responding, the Zonal Head, South Operations of Unity Bank, Mrs Patricia Nwaiwu, said the bank was prepared to move into the hinterland provided businessmen and the local authority agreed to support its existence.
She expressed delight that her zone won two out of the six cars presented in the last six months of Unity Bank’s Aim and Win Promo.
The Zonal Head said the promo was the bank’s way of encouraging savings among Nigerians.
She said it was also an opportunity to let people appreciate the bank, adding that the South zone of the bank was made of up of five regions with more than 44 branches.
Presenting his brief on the promo, the outgoing Divisional Head, Products and Channel of Unity Bank, Mr Felix Ezeh, said it started on March 22 and had run for six months.
Ezeh said that within the period, six cars had been presented to winners in addition to scholarships worth N5 million given out to beneficiaries.
According to Ezeh, other items won during the promo, included phones, motorcycles, bicycles, generators, LCD Televisions, refrigerators and key holders.
He said that the objective of the promo was to inculcate saving habits among Nigerians, support CBN policy of encouraging people to save as well as increase savings among retail customers.
After receiving the car, Inyang said: “I now have a car at old age. This is my first car in my life.
“Before now I have been trekking; by the grace of God, a man from Nsit Ibom now has a car. I am owed pensions for 18 months now.’’
