C’River, UPDC To Build 284 Housing Units
The Cross River Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAC Property Development Company (UPDC) Plc. for the building of 284 houses in the state.
The state Deputy Governor, Mr Efiok Cobham, said at the signing ceremony in Calabar that the houses would be provided in two phases.
According to him, the houses will be accomplished within 30 months.
Cobham said that the MoU was the second of such partnerships between the state and the private sector “to provide first-class housing units for the people.’’
He further said that the first phase of 200 housing units for civil servants was ready for inauguration, adding that the project was financed by Aso Savings and Loans.
Cobham explained that UAC, the parent body of the company, started business in Calabar during the colonial era.
He said that the signing of the agreement marked the home coming of the company to where it started its operations.
He said that Gov. Liyel Imoke’s administration was determined to provide the best environment for business to thrive.
The deputy governor enjoined all those involved in the execution of the project to deliver the project on schedule.
Mr Haheem Oguniran, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of UPDC Plc., said the company had established its presence in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
Oguniran promised that the construction of the housing units would be completed and delivered on schedule.
