COS Inaugurates RYM In Etche
A socio-political organisation, the Rivers Youth Movement (RYM), has been inaugurated in Etche Local Government area of Rivers State.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Okehi, the local government headquarters Friday, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Sir Tony Okocha said that RYM was a movement that would bring hope for the people, especially the youth of the state.
Sir Okocha averred that the body is not an off-shoot of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or a political party but an association for peace, progress, development and betterment of the people, adding that it is a non-governmental organisation which aim is to x-ray government activities in the state.
According to him, the association would criticise the government when it does wrong and commend when it performs well, adding that the state government welcomes constructive criticisms.
He advised Rivers youths to shun any form of killing and other negative tendencies that would militate against the growth of the society, pointing out that they are leaders of tomorrow. “Youths are leaders of tomorrow, we should know that our tomorrow depends on how we plan our present or else, it may be dark”, he stated.
Sir Okocha lauded the people of Etche for the return of peace in the area and thanked them for being the first to host the inauguration programme.
Also speaking, the President-General, Rivers Youth Movement, (RYM), Engr. Richard Alete assured the youth of the state that there would be a brighter future, adding that the association was noted for its peaceful disposition.
The RYM president-general further assured that the association would create job opportunities for the youths in the state and urged them to continue to preach peace and tolerance because, as he puts it, all hope is not yet lost.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Etche Local Government area, Barrister Reginald Ukwuoma expressed happiness over the choice of the local government as the first to host the launching.
The chairman who also served as the coordinator of RYM in the area assured the support of the people to the organisation in the area.
Some dignitaries including Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Okey Amadi, Golden Chioma, Allwell Onyesoh and Hon. Andy Nwanjoku delivered goodwill messages at the event.
