NDPHC Inaugurates 150MVA Transmission Station
The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), owners of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) on Saturday inaugurated a150MVA-capacity transformer in Ayobo, near Lagos, to boost power supply in Lagos.
Our correspondent reports that the additional 150 MVA would raise Ayobo station’s distribution capacity to 750 MVA and boost transmission on the 132/33kV transmission line.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr James Olotu, the company’s Managing Director, assured that the projects would boost the electricity supply to Nigerians, especially those within the distribution network in Lagos and its environs.
According to him, the NIPP initiative is in line with the power sector reform agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, assuring that more projects would be delivered this year to boost power supply to Nigerians.
“This is part of our efforts to ensure sustainability of the power sector reforms and to improve on electricity supply in the country.
“For years now, we have been working to deliver on these projects and this is truly our year of harvest on all NIPP projects in the country.
“We promised that two projects would be commissioned on monthly basis across the country from now till December: This is one of those slated for this month,” he said.
The NDPHC boss said that additional power generation would be required from NIPP projects, provided there was enough gas supply to fire the plants.
Olotu said that the development was a signal to improved power supply to Lagos and its environs, adding that the project would energise and supply power to customers.
He attributed the milestones recorded in the power sector to efforts by stakeholders, including the Presidency, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the international oil companies responsible for the availability of gas for the gas-to-power projects.
