INC Convasses Creation of Oil Rivers State
The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called for a united
action among the Ijaws of Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states in the agitation for the
creation of Oil Rivers State.
The Chairman of the INC, Eastern Zone, Senior Apostle
Derefah R. Bara who said this at the palace of the Okan-Ama of Ngo, HRH Uboon
(Dr) U. D. Ngere said that the Ijaws must unite for the creation of the Oil
Rivers State.
Senior Apostle Bara said that the creation of the proposed state
is the only way of addressing the developmental challenges of the proposed area
as it has suffered serious neglect both in the past and present.
The INC Eastern Zone Chairman also said that the proposed
Oil Rivers State is the most economically viable among the states being
agitated for in the country as it has a lot of abundant natural and human
resources.
According to him, the proposed new state has abundant oil
and gas reserves to cater for its development needs, stressing that the visit
to the palace of the Okan-Ama wsa to get his royal endorsement for the Oil
Rivers State movement.
Also speaking, the Secretary Eastern Zone of the INC, Mr
Fubara R. Rogers said that the visit was also to familiarise the group with the
Ijaw people of Andoni and solicited the assistance of the royal father for a
secretariat.
The Deputy Leader of the Congress, Mrs Sogbo B. G.
Cookey-Gam enjoined the women to support the movement to enable it succeed.
Responding, the Okan-Ama of Ngo, HRH Uboon (Dr) U. D. Ngere
thanked the group for coming to his palace to sensitise Andoni people on the
need for the creation of the Oil Rivers State. The traditional ruler however
enjoined the group to be focused in their sensitisation tour across the zone.
