Rep Gives Confidence Vote On NASS
A member of the House of Representatives, Dr Abubakar Momoh, has said that alleged cases of corruption, involving some lawmakers have not eroded people’s confidence in the National Assembly.
Momoh made the statement in an interview at Auchi in Edo on Monday.
He said that the current Assembly was determined to make laws to improve the lives of the populace.
The lawmaker said that over-sight functions had always afforded the House an opportunity to interface with various segments of the population to identify areas they would make their inputs toward transforming Nigeria for the better.
Momoh described the Otedola, Lawan bribery scandal saga as unfortunate, saying that the nation needed to await the outcome of ongoing investigations before drawing conclusions.
He described allegations of widespread corruption in the House as mere media hype, saying: “It should be emphasised that the people and only the people are the reason why we are there and not for personal interests.
“The public should continue to have faith in us as we remain committed to their cause and that of the Nigeria nation. “It is in our resolve to serve the people better that you see lots of revelations of cases of corruption involving some highly-placed Nigerians, especially in the public sector”, he said.
The lawmaker said that the house had resolved to address all cases of corruption in the public sector.
Momoh advised journalists to reflect issues of the day accurately, bearing in mind their social responsibility, saying that the performance of journalists so far in nation building were laudable.
