Bayelsa Speaker Tasks Police On Plateau Killings
The Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson has urged Nigeria Police and other security agencies to unravel the remote cause of the death of the Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Gyang Dan-Fulani and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Senator Gyang Daylop Dantong.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo, Hon. Benson Friday, who was out of the country when the incident occurred, lamented the pains the untimely death of the two legislators may have caused the families of the victims.
The Speaker who expressed sympathy to people and members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, the Senate President, the government and people of Plateau State, and members of the families of late Senator Gyang Dalyop and James Gyang Fulani, over the death of the two lawmakers described the death of the two lawmakers and others as rude and shocking.
He urged the Federal Government to take drastic measures to curb the ugly security situation in parts of the country, particularly in Jos, saying that security should not be exclusively left in the hands of law enforcement agencies only, as according to him, the emergence of this kind of dangerous insecurity trend in the country needed very urgent steps to tackle it.
According to him, “these recurring killings and destruction of lives and property in that parts of the country have caused colossal damage in many families and to the economy of the affected states”,
He said Dantong’s death came at a time he was most needed by the government in its current efforts to transform the health sector, noting that the majority leader of Plateau State House of Assembly, late Hon. Gyang Fulani’s sterling leadership qualities would be missed by the government and people of Plateau state.
The Speaker asked the Almighty God to grant the departed souls an eternal rest, while praying God to grant the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
