Tourism Summit Begins In Rivers, ’Morrow
The Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will today commence a two-day summit and exhibition in Port Harcourt on the tourism potential of the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Nabbs Imegwu, the two-day summit organised under the theme, “Tourism and Economic Development, the Challenges of Sustenance in Rivers State”, will hold at the Rivers State House of Assembly Auditorium by 10am.
The Commissioner stated that the theme of the event was in line with the current socio-economic realities in the state with a view to exploring new ways of meaningful diversification of the state’s economic base and by extension, creating wealth and youth engagement as well as reducing unemployment.
Dr Imegwu, pointed out that tourism eminently offers immense benefits in the long-term and sustainable alternative to the mono-economy that the oil and gas sector had permeated for decades.
He further assured the readiness of his ministry to break new grounds with the targets of achieving the inherent socio-economic benefits in tourism, and called on Rivers people to support government’s efforts in this direction.
