Rivers New Model Schools Get Sick Bay
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi, has directed the State Ministry of Education to set up sick bay in all the new model primary schools across the state.
Governor Amaechi gave the directive yesterday during a book reading exercise tagged,’’ Rivers State Reads’’ to mark Children’s Day at Mgbuitanwo Town, Emohua Local Government Area.
He said,’’ the sickbay is to have some nurses stationed in case of any child falling sick in school ‘’.
Amaechi therefore directed the Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi to liaise with the Health Ministry to deploy nurses, saying that each of the new schools was built with a sick bay to provide first aid to pupils in case of emergencies.
The Governor while thanking Rainbow Book Club for organising the programme, also hinted of plans to engage more teachers to man the new schools noting that government’s plan was to have teachers in special areas.
However, in the meantime, he stated that the State Government would recruit 10,000 teachers but would subsequently expand the teaching staff..
Rt. Hon. Amaechi also hinted of plans to commence music competition in schools following a special performance by the pupils of the school to welcome him and for his birthday.
In his welcome address, Head Teacher of the school, Deacon M.A Enyi expressed happiness over the governor’s visit,’’ this visit will take a long time to be erased in the minds of people of this community’’.
Deacon Enyi further remarked,’’ we thank God that a school like this is functioning because of the love the governor has for education.’’
He prayed God to grant the Governor more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state, as his educational policies had provided educational opportunities for those who cannot afford it.
Hightlights of the programme include a special reading session, and an interactive forum with the pupils of the school.
