Bayelsa NSCDC Impounds Adulterated Fuel Trucks
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it impounded four truck loads of suspected adulterated petroleum products in Bayelsa between January and April.
Bayelsa Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Philip Ayuba, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa recently.
He said that three trucks were impounded earlier in the year at various parts of the state while the last one was impounded along the Kolo road in Ogbia Local Government Area of the State on Monday.
“When you came in here, you saw a truck outside there. This truck was impounded two days ago.
“We are suspecting that the content is adulterated fuel which, we believe, is from pipeline vandalism because if it is refined and gotten from the right source, it cannot be adulterated.’’
Ayuba said that three persons arrested with the impounded truck on Monday would be prosecuted by the NSCDC as soon as investigations were concluded.
He said that investigations revealed that the documents paraded by the truck driver indicated that the fuel was loaded from Lagos and to be supplied to SETRACO construction company in Yenagoa.
He said the company rejected the product because it was adulterated.
“I want to assure you that the government of today, here in Bayelsa State, has been propagating zero tolerance to crime, which of course we have keyed into and we are trying to make sure that we sanitise the state.
“We have spread all our tentacles round the state and everywhere. In the areas of oil pipeline and PHCN facilities, we have intensified our surveillance activities in the state to ensure that crime rate is reduced.’’
Ayuba said that with the efforts of Governor Seriake Dickson’s administration, the NSCDC would try to ensure that the security of Bayelsa was not negotiable.
He said that the command was pursuing its mandate to ensure that the rate of vandalism, if not totally eradicated, was reduced to the minimum.
The commandant appealed to the state government to provide the corps with speedboats to enable it patrol the creeks and rivers in the State, saying that the command “only has one boat for now”.
