Jonathan Insists On Free,Fair Elections
President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday that the Federal Government was fully committed to free, fair and credible elections in the country.
Our correspondent quotes Jonathan as saying in Sokoto at the flag off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the state gubernatorial election that government would work with all stakeholders to deepen democracy.
The President, who presented the PDP flag to the party’s candidate, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, said there were “very tremendous improvements” in the conduct of the Kogi and Adamawa governorship elections held in December last year and last week respectively.
“What we are doing is to keep working toward a perfect electoral process.”
Jonathan, who urged all stakeholders to put heads and hands together to promote democratic ideals, also appealed to PDP members to work hard so as to shore up the party’s fortunes.
He challenged members of the party to work towards the victory of the party in the governorship election and described Wamakko as a good product that would be happily bought by everyone.
Also, Wamakko pledged to initiate more policies that would improve the living standard of the people if elected, adding that he would focus more on rural transformation.
“I want to offer myself once again for service,” he declared, and promised to serve Sokoto to the best of his ability.
