RSG Rolls Out Programmes For 2023 Independence Anniversary
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee (CPC) to organise the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day Anniversary in the State.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, while inaugurating the committee in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said the Committee was constituted to plan, organise and execute all approved activities marking the 63rd Independence Day Celebration of Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement by Head of Press Unit, Office of the SSG, Juliana Masi, yesterday.
According to the statement, there will be no time lost in preparations as the State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has already approved the programmes for the Independence Day celebration.
He disclosed that the events would begin with an Inter-Denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 24th September and Juma’at Prayers on Friday 29th September, while the grand-finale will hold on Sunday, 1st October, at the Sharks Stadium with spectacular parade and performances.
“I want to commend you all, particularly the agencies you represent, for your commitment and excellent performance over the years during our annual celebrations in the State. I urge you to ensure a resounding performance as we have always done.
“Rivers people expect the best and a memorable performance regarding the 63rd Nigeria Independence Celebration here in the State.
“Every Government Agency and Para-Military Agency, State Ministries and Department here present, you know your roles, I expect that, you quickly make your areas of challenges known as we prepare and execute the plans”, he emphasised.
He urged the committee members to deploy their expertise in the areas of their operations, while noting that the committee will meet regularly prior to the grand-finale.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
