NIPOST Adjusts To Meet Training Needs
The Nigerian Postal Institute says it has made necessary adjustments in order to enable it meet the training needs of the postal industry in the country and the West African sub region.
The postmaster general of the federation, Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba, said this recently in Benin while declaring open a six week course for postal controllers and participants of an International Finance Services (IFS).
Mallam Baba, noted that training and re-training was the only instrument to improve efficiency and performance of workers.
According to him, it makes an organisation to stand a better chance of responding to the challenges of its competitors.
“As our technology changes at an increasingly rapid pace, it requires new skills to meet the resulting changes in job descriptions which frequently blur boundaries between previously distinct job, producing greater demands for a multi-skilled staff”, he said.
He pointed out that symptoms of lack of proper training are many, adding that the most self-evident are haphazard work, delays among others.
The NIPOST boss noted that effective training will impact not only on the way of doing things but also the way of thinking.
He explained that a well trained staff when faced with problems, will be able to respond swiftly due to the level of training he/she has received.
Earlier, the Director of the Nigerian Postal Institute, Mr. Ishaya Musa Diwa, had urged participants to make good use of the opportunity in order to take NIPOST to the next level.
However, Diwa, recalled that the training curriculum of the institute was redesigned to meet training needs of the postal industry according to the universal postal union (UPU) standard.
