Five Kuje Inmates Bag Varsity Degree, 200 Enrol At NOUN

Five inmates of the Kuje Custodial Centre have bagged university degrees in various disciplines at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)
This is as over 200 inmates at the centre are enrolled in tertiary education.
Speaking during the presentation of certificates to the graduands in Abuja on Monday, the Controller General, Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, said education was a potent means of rehabilitation.
Nababa, who was represented by the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Ibrahim Idris, expressed confidence that the inmates could compete favourably with their counterparts without stigmatisation.
He said, “Education is transformative and a powerful rehabilitative tool for development in every society. Therefore, with these certificates, they are fit to compete anywhere without being stigmatised.
“We appreciate the National Open University of Nigeria for their unwavering support to the correctional service all over the federation in ensuring that inmates are reformed through education. Over 200 inmates have enrolled in tertiary education in the Kuje centre alone.
“We encourage other inmates of the facility to take advantage of this free education and other vocational skills to equip themselves for success in larger society upon release.”
He also pledged to continue the service’s partnership with the institution in curbing insecurity in the country.
The Vice Chancellor, NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, who spoke through the National Coordinator, Special Study Centres, Mrs Modupe Adesina, urged all inmates to make the best of the opportunity that had been given to them through a partnership between the Nigerian Correctional Service and NOUN to improve and empower themselves.
The Centre Director, Controller of Corrections, Francis Enobore, called on the public to desist from stigmatising ex-offenders, saying they have been corrected, and should be accepted back into society with all rights and privileges, to avoid going back to crimes.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
