Andoni Community Denies Complicity In Couple’s Death
The Asarama Community in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has denied reports carried in some local tabloids that Andonis invaded Nkoro, killedd a couple and 25 persons injured.
The community also denied speculation that Asarama went to war against its Nkoro neighbours in Opobo/Nkoro local government area of the state.
This was contained in a statement jointly issued by the paramount ruler of Asarama Community, H.R.H Appolus J. N. Ewaye, Chief Francis D. Abadi, the Chairman Asarama Divisional Council of Chiefs, Mr Ndedeng N Atagwung, chairman Asarama Community Development Committee (CDC), Comrade Apporon Owupelle, Asarama youths leader, and the women leader of the community, Mrs Adelah S. Aman.
The statement which was presented by the community spokesman, Chief Otugot M. A. Awoh at a news briefing, said the allegation contained therein were not only tissues of lies, but malicious and aimed at smearing the corporate image of Asarama and the good people there-in by some faceless persons.
The community spokesman, highlighted series of media propaganda published in the local tabloids and captioned “Andonis Invade Nkoro Couple Killed, 25 Injured … Fresh Wars Looms,” and another captioned “Why Asarama Went to War Against Nkoro,” said that there had been never a time Asarama or Andoni people went to war with Nkoro neither killed any person from any community, and there was no reason to do so.
While expressing surprise about the publication, Chief Awoh stressed that “it is sad for anyone to insinuate that Asarama Community has gone to war with Nkoro community, and in doing so, the only two persons they could see and kill were the couple from Asarama and Unyeada communities in Andoni, resident at Nkoro, and not even a single Nkoro person could be sighted for such perceived vengeful killing.”
The community leaders urged the state government, security agencies as well as a member of Federal House of Representatives representing Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro constituency, Hon. Christopher Berewari to intervene and persuade the people of Nkoro to allow peace reign between the two neighbouring communities in the area.
