GOC Warns Soldiers Against Crime
The new General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu Maj.-Gen. Sunday Idoko, on Monday warned that any soldier caught involved in criminal activities will be dismissed.
Idoko, who gave the warning in Calabar, while addressing officers and men of the 13 Brigade, Calabar, warned the soldiers against involvement in any form of criminality, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
He said that the army would not hesitate to take appropriate disciplinary measures, including outright dismissal of any one caught tarnishing the image of the organisation.
Idoko said that already, the army had evolved measures to fish out criminals within its ranks for appropriate action.
The GOC, however, said that the army would stand by its personnel, who display high sense of professionalism and conduct, at all times.
“Any soldier found to be involved in armed robbery, kidnapping or allied criminality will be shown the way out of the Nigerian Army.
“The army will never condone such characters. As I speak, steps are on to fish out soldiers who may be involved in such criminal acts,” he said.
The GOC, who was on familiarisation visit to the Brigade, said that any soldier aspiring to reach the peak of the career must demonstrate greater degree of loyalty, discipline and commitment to work.
He assured the soldiers that the Chief of Army Staff had taken steps to address various issues affecting their welfare.
Idoko, also advised the officers and men of the brigade to control the number of children they give birth to so as to be able to live within their means.
“You should limit the number of children you procreate so that you can train them well at school and also give them good moral education”, he said.
Idoko, accompanied by the Commander, 13 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Shehu Yusuf, inaugurated a block of houses for senior non-commissioned officers of the brigade and a squash court.
