NEPAD Charged To Create Jobs For Youths
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru has reminded members of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) of their roles in ensuring that Nigerians, especially the youths, are gainfully employed as a way of eradicating poverty in the country.
Engr. Ikuru who was speaking when State Coordinators of the South-South and South-East of NEPAD paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Port Harcourt, said that finding a means of livelihood for youths in the country is the only antidote to criminal activities.
Representing Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the deputy governor identified poverty as the major source of crime, pointing out that it is important that those of them from the South-South and South-East regions cooperate to raise the living standards of the people.
All of you should synergise to fight poverty in our society, he declared and urged states in the regions to specialize on what they know best as a means of opening avenues for jobs as well as integrate the economy.”
Earlier, the leader of the team, Dr Tex Wariboko, said the New Partnership for Africa’s Development is charged with the task of implementing policies and programmes of the agency in the State.
